Art therapy promotes self- exploration through creativity, in which we can learn to know ourselves better, access our inner strengths, and so create a more satisfying life.
Tell Me More!
Caroline, the principal Therapist, offers support in a variety of ways.
With individuals, youth, adults, couples, and families.
Caroline Eliza Lyttle is a Master’s trained, registered, and highly experienced Art Therapist and Psychotherapist
She has rich experience working in mental health care over many years, in hospital and community settings ; in disabilities, addictions, trauma, cancer and antenatal care, rehabilitation, grief and loss, anxiety & depression, existential, palliative and spiritual care. A growing area of expertise is supporting neurodivergent children and families.
In her practice, Caroline combines traditional art therapy with other specialist approaches, in line with contemporary neuroscience and trauma research. She offers Somatic Experiencing via Sensorimotor Guided Drawing, and Clay Field therapy, as avenues to fully engage the body’s intelligence, to bring balance to our healing experience. Particularly effective in releasing and transforming adverse or traumatic life experiences.
Caroline also offers Psychotherapy as a Talk Therapy (without the art) for those who prefer this option.
Her practice is based on a humanistic philosophy – the idea that within each of us is a capacity to unfold into our greatest potential. She believes that the way we respond to life’s difficulties is paramount, and looks at how we can grow from our experiences.
Other approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and Gestalt philosophies such as the “here and now”, self- awareness, the I/Thou relationship, with a whole person focus.
As well as her clinical practice, Caroline facilitates regular group workshops within community, and enjoys the richness of a simple life.
How can Art Therapy help me?
You will receive professional therapeutic support in a relaxed environment. Stepping out of everyday life for a while gives you time to pause and reflect. Time for you.
Art Therapy can help people of all ages, personalities, all genders and orientations, from children to older people. Whatever your difficulty or struggle may be, this collaboration of person- centred counselling and guided creative processes will support your recovery by increasing self- awareness, gaining a renewed sense of well- being, and an enhanced quality of life.
Creative expression acts as the key to moving forward, as you gather inner strength.
You will also learn skills to take away and practice which encourages self -directed learning and growing.
Do I need to be artistic?
Absolutely no artistic skills, or previous experience is needed, as art therapy focuses on the process ( the doing) rather than the final result. There is no judgement in this space, only curiosity, as you engage with whatever materials you choose to work with.
Images and forms arrive as and when they need to; they are welcomed, accepted and valued, as you are.
You will learn new ways to explore your emotions and challenges, that pay attention to the whole self : body, mind and spirit, in imaginative and creative ways - to bring insights and a deeper “knowing”.
“With openness to creativity you allow the sun’s rays to illuminate and enliven your world”
